SUPERADOBE EARTH DOME WORKSHOP

Place: Tufillo, Abruzzo (Italy)
Cost: 380 euros
We will build a 1.8 m (internal diameter) earth dome with a door opening and a window.
The purpose of the workshop is to give the theoretical and practical tools useful to selfbuild a small earth structure or living space.
The workshop teaches how to apply the superadobe/earthbag technique for a dome construction.
The workshop will be divided into a theoretical and a practical part.
Theory:
- Earth architecture and the importance of building with earth
- The superadobe technique
- The principle of the arch and of the dome
- Designing a dome
- Practical techniques on analyzing earth composition
- Introduction to waterproofing
- Designing more complex structures and living spaces based on the Eco-Dome concept.
Practice:
- Hands on construction of a complete 1.8m earth dome (foundation and structure)
- Creation of openings for doors, windows and ventilation
- Introduction to plastering
The places are limited. The deadline for the registration is April 17th.
Food and accommodation:
The host can provide 3 meals per day and the possibility to have a single room or a double shared room, or a place in a common room/dormitory or the possibility to camp on site (with own equipment) by adding 50 euros to the cost of the course. The cost will not change according to the type of accommodation chosen, the rooms are limited so the first people which will book the course will have the priority to choose the accommodation they prefer. The worksoppers are free to provide for themselves a different accommodation solution

Davide Frasca - Student and apprentice at the Cal-Earth Institute, builder and trainer of earth domes and earth homes, specialized in superadobe domes and vaults and sustainable architecture (more info in About me)
Donato Mancini - Student and apprentice at the Cal-Earth Institute, trainer of the superadobe technique, permaculture practitioner
The teachers will deliver the knowledge they have acquired during months of apprenticeship at the Cal-Earth Institute.
The course could be held in English and Italian according to the language spoken by the workshoppers.
