SUPERADOBE EARTH DOME WORKSHOP
28 March - 3 April
Place: Pontestura (Italy)
Cost: 400 euros
We will build a 1.8 m (internal diameter) earth dome with a door opening and a window.
The purpose of the workshop is to give the theoretical and practical tools useful to selfbuild a small earth structure or living space.
The workshop teaches how to apply the superadobe technique for a dome constrution.
The workshop will be divided into a theoretical and a practical part.
Theory:
- Earth architecture and the importance of building with earth
- The superadobe technique
- The principle of the arch and of the dome
- Designing a dome
- Practical techniques on analyzing earth composition
- Introduction to waterproofing
- Designing more complex structures and living spaces based on the Eco-Dome concept.
Practice:
- Hands on construction of a complete 1.8m earth dome (foundation and structure)
- Creation of openings for doors, windows and ventilation
- Introduction to plastering
By taking your own tent you will be able to camp for free. A spacious room will be converted to a common dormitory for those who want a spartan but free accomodation. Showers and toilets are at the workshoppers disposal. A nearby Bed & Breakfast can provide accomodation at a special price for the workshoppers.
The places are limited. The deadline for the registration is March 12th.
The trainers:
Davide Frasca - Student and intern at the Cal-Earth Institute, builder and trainer of earth domes and earth homes, specialized in sustainable architecture (more info in About me)
Donato Mancini - Student and intern at the Cal-Earth Institute, builder and trainer of superadobe, permaculture practitioner.
The trainers will deliver directly from the Cal-Earth Institute the knowledge they have acquire in months of apprenticeship.
The course could be held in English and Italian according to the language spoken by the workshoppers.
