SUPERADOBE EARTH DOME WORKSHOP

We will build a 1.8 m (internal diameter) earth dome with a door opening and a window.
The purpose of the workshop is to give the theoretical and practical tools useful to selfbuild a small earth structure or living space.
The workshop teaches how to apply the superadobe/earthbag technique for a dome constrution.
The workshop will be divided into a theoretical and a practical part.
Theory:
- Earth architecture and the importance of building with earth
- The superadobe technique
- The principle of the arch and of the dome
- Designing a dome
- Practical techniques on analyzing earth composition
- Introduction to waterproofing
- Designing more complex structures and living spaces based on the Eco-Dome concept.
Practice:
- Hands on construction of a complete 1.8m earth dome (foundation and structure)
- Creation of openings for doors, windows and ventilation
- Introduction to plastering
The places are limited. The deadline for the registration is July 30th.
Food and accommodation:
The host can provide 3 meals per day and the possibility to camp on site for 20 euros per day. Showers and toilettes will be provided (the workshoppers have to bring their own tent and camping equipment). The workshoppers are free to provide themselves with a different accommodation solution, there are B&B available at a short distance.
The trainer:
Davide Frasca - Student and apprentice at the Cal-Earth Institute, builder and trainer of earth domes and earth homes, specialized in superadobe domes and vaults and sustainable architecture (more info in About me)
The teacher will deliver the knowledge he has acquired during months of apprenticeship at the Cal-Earth Institute.
The course could be held in English and Italian according to the language spoken by the workshoppers.
